I love the "Steam punk" look. I made mine a using a zipper with cogs or gears tucked just inside the zipper and a hot air balloon literally springing off the tag. The other embellishments are a copper ruler, some sort of glass cylinder bead that I filled with eyelets to replicate the rivets used in the metal "steam punk" look. I also used the number 9 representing the 9th calendar month, as these tags will be used in my wardrobe perpetual calendar the I posted a while back.
I really loved learning this technique. I can see some projects in the future using it again.

I am thinking that I may need to change the bottom of my heading from "felt food & other goodies" to something else. After all, these days I am working on more of the "other goodies" and none of the felt food. Also, I don't sell the things I make anymore. However, if anyone wants any felt food, I have big plastic bins full.
I hate to give up the whole banner of "Little Miss Sew N Sew" "Felt Food Market & other goodies" because, what if I decide in the future to take it up again? Also, it is a nostalgia thing too. I had such fun in that era of creativity.
But, I also think that, that era was more craft and this era is more art. We change and hopefully grow and learn with the changes. Don't mistake my meaning, being crafty does not mean less talented. To me, crafty means more domestic and functional. Art to me means, honing my vision and works that are more sophisticated that the cute stuff. And from what I said previously about craft being more functional, I guess that would mean that Art is less functional.( Hmm, maybe I am regressing after all).
Anyway, one of the reason's that I am not selling my things anymore is because, I found that when I was selling handmade items, I became less passionate about them as time wore on and sales went up.
Yes, I made money but it also became a job. And lets face it, I already have numerous jobs. The two that I do for money and the long list of other ones that I get no money and sometimes no gratitude for.
I needed something that was self gratifying. Though sometimes no one understands where in me that, that piece of art came from or why or what it means. When I can complete a piece and make it come to life from that picture in my mind, it is extremely, supremely gratifying. It is the zone that I mentioned in my previous post.
Also, I think that if it does not become a job, then I can stick to a type of art longer. ( That remains to be seen). But multi medium art has no limitations. Only ones imagination is limited.
With that being said, here is my latest piece. I have not given her a name yet, but, I know for certain that her name is NOT Ariel. Ariel brings to mind the Disney character and "cute". This mermaid is not "cute". She is a sea warrior (notice her bow and quiver of tridents) and the encrustations of shells on her body) she has been in the sea for a long time. On her hip she has a bottle of the jewels she has collected and a bottle with a message in it. Her skin is tattooed with the time in the sea and the battles that she has endured. She is beautiful and she is a take no crap kind of mermaid, and still a siren of the sea. I hope you like her, but if you don't, it's okay because I like her and had immeasurable joy in making her and she turned out just like the picture in my mind.

Ahh, Friday! One would think it meant weekend, retreat, relax. The stress' of the week are over, there is fun to be had on the horizon. Good for all of you, if that is Friday's meaning to you. not so for me. It means one more day of work and then on Sunday, I AM FREE!
I love days when there is no making money work to do, but that the work I do accomplish is of my own FREE choosing. I love when I can wake up and the whole beautiful day is laid out like the softest carpet, stretched out at my feet. I really love the potential that those days have. I don't mean to sound maudlin about work days. It is a gift every day that I live, and I find joy in all of my days. The joy's are also gifts. (more on those later)
But some of my most favored of favorite days are the days that I can just be free to create in my studio. I get lost in a project and it is blissful. On those days, I know that I have spent the day creating with the voice of THE Creator whispering in my ear.

Here is my latest "Art Project". It started as a nondescript shoe box. Then, as I have been watching you tube video's, I came across Following the Paper Trail. Laura ( I think that is her name) made a traveling trunk. Inside was a perpetual calender, and that is all of the inspiration I needed. So, I borrowed the perpetual calendar idea and made the rest of the project my own.
The tags will change every month and the stop watch represents the calendar year and the bingo game piece represents the date. I had so much fun making this. It was challenging and has been gratifying. Now, just to find a place to display it.
